THE WELD CLUB BY-LAWS
AS AT FEBRUARY 2024  The By-Laws should be read in conjunction with the Rules of the Club.

HOURS OF OPERATION

  1. The Club House will be open from 7.00 am until 11.00 pm each day except Sundays and Public Holidays. On those days, unless through prior arrangement with the Secretary or his elected representative, meals and liquor will be available only to members and guests residing at the Club.

GUESTS

  1. Members and Honorary Members may invite guests to the Club subject to the relevant By- Laws.

ACCESS TO CERTAIN ROOMS BY LADIES

  1. Ladies are not permitted in the Wittenoom Room or Billiard Room at any time, except on special occasions sanctioned by the President. Ladies are not permitted in the Member’s Bar prior to 5 pm, except on special occasions sanctioned by the President.

HOSTING THE WIDOW OF A DECEASED MEMBER

  1. A member who is the host of a widow of a deceased member is not required to pay a charge for food and beverage supplied to his guest on such special occasions as may be so designated by the Committee and advertised in the Club newsletter.

GUESTS INVITED TO MEALS

  1. Lunch (Monday to Friday)
  • Gentlemen may be invited to pre-lunch drinks in the Members’ Bar or the Wittenoom Room. They may then lunch in the Dining Room or the Verandah Room and take coffee afterwards in the Wittenoom Room.
  • Ladies may be invited to lunch in the Verandah Room or the Dining Room. Pre-lunch drinks and coffee may be taken in the Garden Drawing Room.
  • The Members’ Table will be reserved for the exclusive use of members.
  1. Dinner (Tuesday to Saturday)
  • Ladies and gentlemen guests may be invited to dinner in the Verandah Room.
  • Children under the age of 12 years are not permitted to dine at the Club,  save for such occasions as are designated by the Committee, or when attending a private function, and may be admitted only when accompanied by a member, who will be responsible for their conduct.
  1. Tables in the Dining Room and the Verandah Room may be reserved by members (with or without guests) for lunch and in the Verandah Room for dinner. These will be allocated in order of notice received by the Operations Manager.

DRESS

  1. Gentlemen

Subject to the below stated exceptions gentlemen are required to wear a suit and tie or long-sleeved tailored jacket and tie between the hours of 11.00 am and 5.00 pm Monday to Friday.

At other times the following applies:

  • Monday to Friday

Up until 11.00 am jackets and ties are optional in the Verandah Room and the adjoining verandah. Ties are optional in all other parts of the Club House.

After 5.00 pm, while a long-sleeved tailored jacket is still required, ties are optional throughout the Club House unless a specified dress code is designated for a Club or private function.

  • On Weekends & Public Holidays

On Saturdays tailored jackets and ties are optional throughout the Club House until 5.00 pm. After 5.00 pm tailored jackets are then required or the dress code designated for a Club or private function.

On Sundays and public holidays tailored jackets and ties are optional throughout the Club House at all times.

Billiard Room and Bridge

Jackets and ties may be removed in the Billiard Room and jackets may be removed in any room nominated for playing bridge.

Verandah Room and Garden Drawing Room

Ties are optional for The Verandah Room and the Garden Drawing Room during lunchtime service and      pre-lunch drinks.

Ladies

Unless a dress code is designated for a Club or private function ladies dress should at a minimum be smart attire.

General

No denim is permitted in the Club House at any time other than those residing in the Club bedrooms who may enter or leave the Club House in any clothing appropriate to their destination.

The Club will recognise the uniform of a member of any Defence Force, Police or other statutory authority and the national dress of a visitor from overseas.

CAR-PARK

  1. Members wishing to park cars in the Club car- park are required to record the vehicle details at the Secretary’s Office and to exhibit a Club “identification badge” on the vehicle.
  1. A member may not park his vehicle in the Club car-park between the hours of 11.30 am and 1.30 pm unless he is lunching in the Club in the Verandah Room, Members’ Dining Room, Billiard Room or at a Club or private event.
  1. Permanent or regular parking is not permitted. This By-Law does not apply to members residing at the Club.
  1. The Club car-park is intended to be for the exclusive use of members. Guests of members may only park their vehicles in the Club car-park after 5.00 pm whilst being entertained in the Club House.

GENERAL CONDUCT

  1. Private Business 
    1. Members should not discuss matters of business or commerce or take briefcases, satchels or business papers into the public rooms of the Club.
    2. Members wishing to hold meetings of a business nature may approach the Secretary, who may designate a room for use as appropriate.
    3. Club stationery is not to be used for business correspondence.
    4. No promotional, commercial or marketing activities may be undertaken on the Club
  1. Electronic Devices
  • Except as provided in By-Law 13 b) the use of electronic equipment, such as mobile telephones, tablets, laptops and other computer devices is restricted to bedrooms, the first floor Reading Room and  Lounge together with the adjoining verandah, provided that such use does not impair the use or enjoyment of those areas by other members. Mobile telephones may also be used at the telephone table in the entrance hall provided for that purpose.
  • Elsewhere in the Club House:Electronic diaries may be used for the purpose of arranging social arrangements in the same way as pocket diaries and calendars are used, provided they are switched to silent mode; tablets may be used in the Verandah at breakfast time to access news and newspaper sites, but headphones, ear-phones and microphones may not be used; otherwise electronic equipment may not be used for any purpose.
  1. Games
    Subject to By-Law 3, guests may be admitted to the Billiard Room. Cards may be played only in rooms set aside by the Committee for that purpose.
  1. Notices and Publications
    No notices or publications are to be exhibited in the Club House except by the Secretary or his delegate.
  1. Reading Matter
    Newspapers and periodicals are not to be damaged or removed from the club premises, except that books may be borrowed from the Balston Library on signature for a period not exceeding one month.
  1. Privacy & ConfidentialityMembers and their guests are to respect the privacy of the Club. Information concerning the Club is confidential and is not to be made available to the media, published on any social media platform or disclosed to other persons except for the purpose of the administration of the Club or with the prior written consent of the Committee.
  2. Media & Social MediaNo Member shall speak or communicate with or provide information to the media or to a social media platform about the Club or its’ membership without the prior written consent of the President.
  3. Photography No member or their guests shall take photographs in the Club without the permission of the Secretary being first obtained.
  4. SmokingSmoking in the Club House grounds is restricted to the first-floor verandah and under the pergola located on the Grand Lawn

    BEDROOMS

  5. BedroomsBedrooms may be reserved for the use of:

    (a)  members;

    (b) gentlemen guests of members (with their spouses and partners); and

    (c) female reciprocal club members (with their spouses and partners) as guests of the President (or in his absence, the Vice President).

    Members are responsible for their guests and must ensure that they are aware of the Club Rules and By-Laws.

    In the case of female reciprocal club members who attend the Club as guests of the President, the Secretary or a member of staff will ensure that they are aware of the operation of the Club Rules and By-Laws and the areas of the Club House which are reserved for the exclusive use of gentlemen and they will be required to make satisfactory arrangement with the Secretary for payment of their accounts.

  6. When accepting bookings for the bedrooms, the Secretary must give preference to Life, Ordinary and Supernumerary Members over Honorary Members and guests.
  7. A member or guest may occupy a bedroom for 14 days, after which he may be called upon to vacate the room if another member requires it.
  8. Unless specifically approved by the Secretary, children under the age of 16 years are not permitted to occupy a bedroom.

    NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES FOR ORDINARY MEMBERSHIP

  9. A Life or Ordinary Member wishing   to   nominate   a   candidate for Ordinary Membership must first arrange through the Secretary to attend a meeting of the Procedures Sub-Committee. At that meeting his responsibilities will be explained and he will be provided with written details of the procedure to be followed and a nomination form together with a privacy release form to be completed by the candidate.
